Checkups & Cleanings
One of the most important aspects of maintaining your child’s dental health are regular checkups and cleanings.
Children should have regular dental exams every six months, starting at age 1. This allows our pediatric dentist to ensure that your child’s teeth are healthy and identify any issues as soon as they begin. If cavities are identified early, our pediatric dentist can show you where they are located and sometimes prevent these teeth from requiring treatment. If treatment is required, they may only require very conservative restorations. We will also be able to monitor the growth and development of your child’s teeth. If any orthodontic issues are identified, our orthodontist will be able to treat them early to ensure they always have a beautiful smile!
Cleanings are also important, both for young children who are still learning how to properly maintain their dental hygiene and for older kids who may not prioritize brushing their teeth. For children who are in orthodontics, more frequent cleanings every 3 months are also beneficial to maintaining the health of their teeth and gums. Our hygiene team will teach both parents and children how to properly care for their teeth at home to maintain their healthy, beautiful smiles!
Cavity Prevention With Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride is one of the best treatments to prevent tooth decay, especially for children. Fluoride helps strengthen the outer enamel of teeth, making them more resistant to developing cavities. It is also inexpensive and non-invasive. Keeping your child’s teeth free of cavities can help improve their overall health and appearance. At Georgia Orthodontics & Children’s Dentistry, we offer fluoride treatments as part of our preventative pediatric dentistry options for patients to protect their teeth from decay.
Dental X-Rays
Radiographs, or x-rays, are an integral part of our pediatric dental examination in order to see what is not visible to the eye. Some of these areas include in between the teeth and below the gum tissue surfaces. Dental x-rays are used to help identify cavities or tooth decay. They can also bring to light other health and orthodontic issues which can then be treated early and effectively.
